A voyage out of London began in sombre mood for while docked on the Thames, we gave our assistance to the metropolitan police in the retrieval of a poor woman who had drowned herself that previous night.
This bedraggled Ophelia lay upon our deck for a short time - such a delicate and lonely creature. We were later informed that her name was Lizzie Green and that she had fallen on hard times having grown too old to earn money at her wretched profession.
All that she had about her person was an old daguerreotype of her younger self, kissing her own reflection as if affection could only be got that way.
